Beyond the Bar hosts online speed connection events designed to make meeting new people simple, comfortable, and time-efficient.
All events are run online using a third-party platform and can be joined from anywhere in South Africa.

All events must be booked and paid for in advance.

You’ll log in (on your phone, tablet or computer) using the email address you booked with. We recommend joining 5–10 minutes early to ensure your camera and audio are working correctly.

Each event begins with a short welcome video, explaining how the session will run and what to expect.

You’ll be matched into a series of short (5-min), one-on-one video conversations with different participants.
During each conversation, you’ll be able to see a limited profile of the person you’re speaking to, which may include:
There are no guided questions. Conversations are natural and self-led, using their profile information as a starting point. Events are structured but self-led. Beyond the Bar does not moderate individual conversations or influence outcomes.

You’ll be automatically matched with all participants, rotating through 5-minute conversations. After each round, a short break allows you to choose whether you’d like to connect, be friends, or not connect with that participant before moving on to the next conversation.

At the end of the event, a short thank-you video will wrap up the session and explain next steps.
Participation does not require you to continue conversations after the event. Any follow-up or connection via the messenger app - where contact details may be exchanged - is entirely optional and only possible through mutual matching on the platform.
